Match report Halstead opened their Division One accounts with a hard fought victory over fellow struggles Ipswich. The win took the club off of the bottom of the table.

Ipswich batted first and one man lead from the front. James Alder scoring nearly all the runs in a 78 run opening stand. His partner Rusby (5) would be the first wicket, getting himself run out.

Ipswich ticked along the scoring and Alder completed an impressive 100 with the scores on just 119. He fell immediately after however, the first of three victims of Digby Harding's left arm spin. Polley (17) and Stockton (13) were the other two as Ipswich were left at 157-4.

Ipswich lost three more wickets toward the end of their innings, Hondo (2), McKinnon (4) and Drury (41), closing on 203-7 off of 50 overs. Charlie Douglas-Hughes and two run outs accounting for them.

Halstead's reply did not get off to a faltering start, losing three wickets with 61 runs on the board. Neale Dakin (11), Douglas-Hughes (22) and Graham Wickes (21) the men to go.

This brought together Freddie Preston (59) and Mark Johnson (75 n. o.) at the crease. The pair would go on to change the tide of the match, with a game winning partnership. They added 128 runs for the fourth wicket, taking the score up to 189-4 and all but winning the match for Halstead.

A quick burst from Chris Rayner (11) after PReston was out, was enough to see Halstead across the line and give the first eleven a first league win in over a year.
