Frinton II v Halstead Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI on Sat 23 Apr 2016 at 13:00
Halstead Cricket Club Won by 82 runs

Match report After the season opener against Mildenhall was rained off, Halstead kicked off their 2016 Two Counties Division One campaign with a resounding win over Frinton II at Ashlynn Road.

Josh Wells won the toss and elected to bat first, with Charlie Douglas-Hughes and Mark Johnson the opening partnership.

They ticked the scoreboard over, reaching 20 before Douglas-Hughes was dismissed, hitting a Jermaine Shillingford delivery hard at Russell Stockdale at point.

Wells joined Johnson and the two added 28 for the second wicket before Johnson was caught and bowled by M. Fowler.

Larvet Masunda played some encouraging shots on Halstead debut, but the Zimbabwean was the third wicket to fall, Stockdale again claiming the catch, this time off M. Fowler.

Halstead again endured a middle-order collapse, something that severely hampered them last season, falling from 70-2 to 94-7 as Wells, Harry Veal (0), Chris Rayner (5) and Goush Raviendran (9) fell. Stockdale taking two wickets, Catlow the other.

Another debutant, Matt Cooper (5) helped the score on to 116 before being trapped lbw by Catlow, leaving Halstead in a precarious position.

Brothers Adam (16) and Joe Morris (24) added forty runs between them, dragging Halstead to a total of 148 all out in the 45th over.

Russell Stockdale (3-20) and L. Catlow (3-21) were the pick of the host bowlers.

In reply, only three Frinton batsmen made it past double figures as disciplined bowling from the Halstead attack proved too much to deal with.

Joe Morris took two early wickets, bowling Price (2) and having Brynes (0) caught behind by Masunda with the scores on 11.

J. Fowler (30) top scored for Frinton, but once his and Stockdale’s (12) partnership was broken at 36-3 – Harry Veal having the latter caught behind – the wickets tumbled.

In total, eight wickets fell for the addition of just 30 runs, with five of them with the score on 62 as Morris claimed 4-22, Wells 3-9 and Douglas-Hughes 2-6 to give the Star Stile side an emphatic, 20 point win to push them joint top of Division One.
