Halstead Cricket Club Lost by 89 runs

Match report Worlington consolidated their place at the top of Division One whilst Halstead dropped to third after an 89 run victory for the hosts on Saturday.

Batting first, Worlington were quickly reduced to 20-1 as Ed Clark (1-59) had Ziaf Kulasi caught by Andy Charlton for 14.

Graham Ford (72) shared 30 run stands with James Watson (17) and Craig Estlea (11), Joe Morris (2-51) having Watson caught by Josh Wells (2-47), who then trapped Estlea lbw.

Former Halstead player Mark Nunn joined Ford at the crease as the latter passed his half century, reaching a 103 ball 72 before he was caught by Wells off the bowling of Josh King (1-41).

Nunn (43) and Daren Hayward (51*) put on 54 for the 5th wicket as spinners Charlton (0-25) and Craig Spooner (0-35) bowled without success.

Nunn was the next to go, caught and bowled by Wells, with the Halstead skipper promptly running out Nuwan Jayasena (16) soon after.

Hayward passed his half century batting with Ashan Athukoralage (29) wo was the last man out, caught by King off the final ball from Morris.

Halstead lost wickets at consistent intervals, the highest partnership of their disjointed reply being just 29.

Chris Huntington (14) could not capitalise on his unbeaten century the previous week as he was bowled by Charlie Tunstall (4-55), the first of four wickets for the Worlington opener.

Josh Ruthven (14), Josh Wells (6) and Mark Johnson (23) all fell to the left-armer as Halstead struggled to 73-4.

Craig Spooner (38) took 25 runs from Tunstall’s last over to spoil what were excellent figures, but he was dismissed by an outstanding return catch from Nuwan Jayasena (3-23), the second wicket for Jayasena after he had Charlie Douglas-Hughes (12) caught behind by James Watson.

Joe Morris (2) was bowled by Jayasena before Chris Rayner (22) and Josh King (22) offered some fleeting resistance for the eighth wicket.

The former was trapped lbw by Mark Nunn (2-27) who also dismissed King courtesy of a Tunstall catch.

Ed Clark (10*) was the man left not out at the end as Craig Estlea (1-9) bowled Andy Charlton (1) with Halstead 89 runs short of their target.

Josh Wells’ side reah the halfway point in the season on Saturday, hosting Maldon.
