Halstead Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI v Wivenhoe II on Sat 01 Sep 2018 at 12:30
Halstead Cricket Club Lost by 91 runs

Match report Halstead II - 122 all out - lost to Wivenhoe II - 213-6 - by 91 runs

Halstead collapsed to defeat against relegation troubled Wivenhoe II on Saturday, dragging themselves into an unwanted nervous final two games of the season.

They sit 13 points above the second relegation place, knowing 17 points in the final two games will be enough to preserve Division Four status for the second year.

Aaron Read (1-63) took the early wicket of Ross Evers (14) - caught by Adam Morris - but 50s from Jakob Kelly (65) and William Morgan (50) set up a strong total for the visitors.

Kelly - who had survived a dropped catch early in his innings - was trapped lbw by Justin Rose (3-29), Paul Farrow (0) suffering the same fate and Eddie Lucking (0) edging behind to Andrew Clark all in the seamer's first over.

Robert MacDonald (55*) was patient, letting Morgan take the strike to get to his half-century, but the right-hander was out soon after, skewing Chris Roper (2-34) to David Baalham at cover.

Liam Fields (12) was the third lbw of the game, Roper taking his second wicket as MacDonald and Andrew Green (12*) saw Wivenhoe to 213-6 from their 45 overs.

Wivenhoe opened with spin - 34 of the 41 overs bowled would be by slow bowlers - and it paid immediate dividends as Kelly (2-29) had Morris (1) caught at slip by Morgan.

Former Wivenhoe man Andrew Clark (10) added 40 for the second wicket with Justin Rose (39), but was trapped lbw by Andrew Green (6-40).

Rose and Simon Steel (30) moved the runs along, but the required rate continued to climb as Rose fell lbw to Kelly and Steel top-edged Green to Morgan at slip.

From 91-4 and a reasonable position, Halstead capitulated to 122 all out, with Green and Ross Evers (2-16) making light work of the middle and lower order.

Andy Rose (8), Aaron Read (1) got off the mark, but David Baalham, Chris Roper and Callum Hansey fell for ducks as Green completed a five-wicket haul.

Rob Harris (19*) and Sam Paisley (2) prolonged the inevitable, but Green took his sixth wicket to give the visitors a vital lifeline in Division Four.
