Mark Harris' five wicket haul and unbeaten half-centuries for Mark Surridge and David Baalham saw the Third XI to victory at Copford.

They sit in second place in Division Eight, 16 points behind leaders Dunmow but with two games in hand on them.

Copford batted first and looked on for a good score as Phil Humphreys (63) scored well at the top of the innings, hitting 14 fours.

He found support in Saliya Samaranayake (18), Dan Vipond (19) and skipper Alex Godley (19).

Andrew Jones (1-25) and Barrie Morris (1-35) dismissed Samaranayake and Godley respectively, before the introduction of the spinners had a marked effect on proceedings.

Harris (5-60) and Surridge (2-3) shared seven wickets between them as only Chris Lennox (13) made double figures in the Copford middle and lower order.

Mark Bloomfield (17), David Rawlinson (12) and Sam Hawes (2) all fell early in the Halstead chase as Alex Godley (1-30) and Tom Bullen (2-33) reduced the visitors to 62-3.

From here an unbroken 95 run stand between Surrdige (53*) and Baalham (54*) - the latter hitting 5 sixes and 4 fours - saw the Mark Bloomfield's side home.
