Mark Campbell – “I woke this morning to the very sad news that Mr. Halstead CC Peter "Polo" Rawlinson had passed away in the UK.
As fate would have it this was the man who happened to walk in to a sports store in Colchester and told the proprietor that the Halstead Cricket Club overseas player was not coming - did he know of anyone. This happened to be my cousins mate who said I was available.
He came and got me and in the half hour journey from where I was staying to Halstead gave me the lecture on "sledging" and how Aussies were so good at it but he didn't think it was appropriate!!!!!!!
He introduced me around to people who have become lifelong friends and every time I went back he was always so happy to see me and me to see him.
Because of his fateful conversation he had in a Colchester Sports Store 24 years ago I am now the proud father of Lia and grandfather to Layla. This would not of happened without him.

Steve Macklin – “I have had the privilege of playing cricket for 2 great local clubs in Braintree Cricket Club, where I learnt the game and now at Halstead Cricket Club Starstile. It pains me that both these clubs in the space of 3 days have lost the Presidents of theirs clubs. Tom Gould and Peter Rawlinson were cornerstones of their clubs. Two gentleman for which their respective clubs and the game of cricket was always at the forefront. Their passing will leave a void at both clubs. RIP Tom and Peter.“
