Gosfield School and Halstead Cricket Club partner to promote cricketing values

A new partnership has been announced between local Independent Gosfield School and Halstead’s long-established and successful cricket club. The School opened a new Cricket Academy in 2018 and already has a thriving partnership with Sudbury Cricket Club.

Gosfield School Principal Guy Martyn explains: “We have invested in Cricket for two main reasons; firstly, because its traditions and values reflect those we promote, and second because in our small School both our boys and girls can play, develop and compete together using our first-class facilities. This new partnership will help provide more local boys and girls, who respect all that cricket stands for, with an opportunity to apply for an education which inspires achievement beyond expectation and has cricket and its values at its heart.”

Halstead Cricket Club Chairman, Dave Brooker, continues: “We are aware that many of our young players may rarely experience cricket during their School time, whilst those who do will significantly benefit from this in terms of their experience and progress. We hope that the work we do together will create opportunities for talented young Halstead based cricketers to gain Scholarships at Gosfield School that enable them to exceed their current expectations in both cricket and their wider education; which in turn will increase the overall quality of our players and teams in line with our ambitions for our club.”

Gosfield School’s Head of Cricket, Ben Stephens is also the Founder of PiriPiri Cricket and manages England Cricket Captain Joe Root’s Professional Academy. “With currently only around 20 Scholars we are growing towards competing with the best cricketing Schools in all age groups. However, a small-scale start in a small School is already enabling each player to optimise their progress, unlock their potential and encourage less naturally gifted players to participate and enjoy the sport in line with our School’s mantra; ‘Grow, Achieve, Inspire’.”

Halstead Club Captain Josh Wells’ side used the School’s facilities as part of their pre-season program. “I feel we benefitted massively from the use of the facilities pre-season. The improvements have helped us prepare for what will hopefully be another successful campaign”.
