Halstead Cricket Club News story

Peter Scott

28 May 2020

The club were saddened to hear of the passing of Peter Scott earlier this month.

Peter joined the club in 1972 after moving to the area to take up the position of Headmaster at Earls Colne Grammar School, having preciously taught at Wem School in Shropshire, played for Wem CC and representing Shropshire at Minor Counties level.

He debuted for Halstead 1st XI on Sunday April 30th 1972 at Deben Valley and was joint second highest scorer for us with 27 (including a 6 which will come as some surprise to those who played in the same side as Peter regularly) and took 1-37 off 7.2 overs in a rare defeat for us against Deben Valley. This was a Two Counties League fixture, many of which were on Sundays in those days.

An off spin bowler and middle/late order batsmen, Peter played regularly for the 1st XI until 1980 and thereafter for the 2nd XI and the very earlier days of the 3rd XI before retiring from the playing arena around 1991.

Peter was Club Secretary from 1990 to 1993, which was a very important period that saw the plans formulated to develop Star Stile as we know it today. Peter was an absolute gentleman who will be sadly missed.
