Three Wins On A Knife-Edge Weekend
Once again all three Halstead teams prevailed - each match a rollercoaster that could have gone either way.
1XI at East Bergholt
After winning the toss, Halstead bowled first. East Bergholt flew to 170/1 after 28 overs on a bone-dry outfield before
a superb caught & bowled by Josh King removed Isaac Tombs and flipped the script. Wickets tumbled with
Liam Jones and Tharusha Fernando each grabbing four as the hosts were rolled for 244.
The chase wobbled at 39/3 before a brilliant partnership of 185 between Harry Pritchard and Josh Wells.
Wells made a fluent 84 and Pritchard carried his bat for a serene 106* (16x4, 2x6), seeing Halstead home by 5 wickets.
2XI vs Battisford (Star Stile)
Battisford posted 232/7 (Callum Hansey and Andy Charlton 2 wickets each). The reply was steady with
Mark Johnson and Will Moss in the 30s, but Charles Mallett changed the game, smashing
88 (64). With support from Charlton and Matthew Tyson, Halstead won by 3 wickets with
5 overs to spare.
3XI at Copford
Halstead made a commanding 280 all out with top scores from Ben Roper (74) and Sam Johnson (60).
Copford fell to 187/8 and 196/9 before a remarkable last-wicket stand of 70 took them within 13 runs.
Roper claimed 3, with doubles for Andrew Jones, Will Gerrard and Lewis Cook as Halstead scraped home.
Both the 1st and 2nd teams lead their leagues. Next week the 1XI host Woolpit, the 2XI travel to
Nowton, and the 3XI are back at Star Stile vs Earls Colne.
