Halstead Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI v Witham I on Sat 22 Jun 2013 at 13.00
Halstead Cricket Club Lost by 6 wickets

Match reportHalstead were comfortably beaten at home to Witham on Saturday. They lost the toss and were asked to bat first.

Despite getting off to a good start, Tom Peacock (19) and Charlie Douglas-Hughes (22) adding 33 for the first wicket, they endured a collapse. From this position they were reduced to 56-5. Cody McDonald taking three wickets in the process. Chris Rayner (24) and Digby Harding (27) put Halstead through a period of rebuilding. Their partnership was worth a valuable 52 when Rayner was dismissed. Harding fell soon after and Halstead collapsed again, losing their last five wickets for just 11 runs, as Witham bowled them out for 119. McDonald the pick of the bowlers with 4-24.

E Suett (50 n. o.) and Hawes (21) got Witham's reply off to a flyer, a fifty partnership between the openers quickly taking the game away from Halstead. Though when Hawes was run out, the left arm spin of David Elsbur took over. He claimed three scalps, but Green (20) and Suett seemed to do enough, and Witham reached their target inside 33 overs.

Halstead travel to Elmstead next week for a crunch bottom of the table clash.

Yoxford v Halstead Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI on Sat 22 Jun 2013 at 13.00
Halstead Cricket Club Won by 13 runs

Match reportThe second eleven got the only win of the day in the club, as they narrowly beat Yoxford in what is one of the longest away trips of the season.

Rain was in the air and the teams had to leave the pitch at times, but Halstead batted first, securing full bonus points in a total of 203 all out. A partnership of 115 for the third wicket between débutante Adit Pawha (84) and Andy Rose (52) set the stage for the innings. The pair made use of the small boundaries to hit twenty fours and three sixes between them. After rain delay, Halstead's middle and lower order did not make any significant contributions, bar skipper Ian Pont (16). Matt Lincoln the pick of the bowlers with 4-78.

Yoxford's reply had plenty of batsmen getting starts, but with Cook (38) the top scorer, no one went on to get a big score that would have seen them home. Tight spells early on in the innings, one that was opened with spin, kept their opponents in check. Catherine Dalton took two early wickets, before a fifth wicket partnership of 55 between Percival (30) and Cook steadied the Yoxford ship. Ben Morris accounted for the pair. However it would be the Rose brothers, Andy and Justin that did the final damage. Economical spells from them heaped on the pressure and Halstead bowled their opponents out 13 runs short for 190, Justin ending with 3-19.

Halstead Cricket Club Saturday 3rd XI v Brockley II on Sat 22 Jun 2013 at 13.00
Halstead Cricket Club Lost by 7 wickets

Match reportHalstead's third eleven were well beaten at home to Brockley II on a day when winning the toss was paramount.

They lost the toss and were asked to bat, but with only three batsmen reaching double figures, David Rawlinson (22) top scoring, they were never up to pace with setting a good target. Excellent spells from the opening bowlers Hill and Webb kept run scoring at a minimum as wickets were shared around with Halstead 81 all out.

Knowing they had plenty of time in which to get the runs always helped Brockley. Both openers scoring 19, whilst Goddard (28 n. o.) was there to see them across the line. Halstead bowled tightly, Callum Hansey taking 2-20, but never had the runs on the board to compete.

Sudbury v Halstead Cricket Club Friendly XI on Sun 23 Jun 2013 at 13.30
Halstead Cricket Club Won by 30 runs

Match reportHalstead travelled to Friars Street on Sunday for a friendly against local rivals Sudbury. Both teams fielded plenty of Colts and used the game as a way of ensuring their introduction to senior cricket continued.

Halstead were asked to bat first. Mark Surridge (48) anchored the innings at the top of the order, scoring quickly early on as he was supported by the Morris brothers, Ben (10) and Joe (16). Charlie Douglas-Hughes (62) then assumed the role of run scorer, with only Digby Harding (10) also reaching double figures. Halstead youngster's did their job and occupied the crease, before scoring a few runs quickly at the end to close on 198 all out.

Sudbury's reply got off to a blistering start with Cooney (16) plundering 16 runs from the first Hansey over, but Sam Walter at the other end dismissed both openers inside four overs as Halstead regained some control. Elsey (29) played a very composed innings as he looked to stick out the overs, and when joined by Poole (73) the pair pushed the game on, making Sudbury the favourites. Joe Morris claimed both of their wickets, as it swung back in Halstead's favour. Peter Siegert (15) resisted well at the end, but the spin of Harding and Douglas-Hughes ran through the tail, to give Halstead a thirty run victory, on a day where all four results were at times looking possible.
