Match report
Halstead fell to a narrow defeat in an exciting Two Counties Division One clash at Mildenhall.
Having lost the toss, Halstead were put in to bat. Neale Dakin (56) was the top scorer in Halstead's innings, the opener lead from the front with some fine stroke play. He was supported by Mark Johnson (26) at the top of the order. Mildenhall's bowling was tight, but Halstead added runs throughout the order, both Chris Rayner (23) and Ed Merry (23) making valuable contributions. Halstead were bowled out in the 50th over, having amassed 188 runs. James Holmes was the pick of the home bowlers with 4-47.
Mildenhall's reply faltered early on, with both openers being dismissed for single figures. Erik Laubscher (48) and Andrew Squires (25) rebuilt, but after their stand wickets again fell. Robert Harris (4-60), Digby Harding (3-53) and Freddie Preston (2-38) bowling well. A tense finale was set up, with Mildenhall taking it to the last three balls before getting to their target.
