Match report The first eleven's search for a victory continues as they fell to a narrow defeat at home to Maldon.

Batting first, Maldon started off well, with both openers getting starts as part of a 77 run partnership. Digby Harding had J. GLenn (39) caught and bowled before Robert Harris trapped C. Harris (32) lbw.

Maldon moved on to 100, then lost another two wickets in quick succession, both to the bowling of Harris. N. Simpson (57 n.o.) and M. Coker (42) added 87 runs for the fifth wicket, but the again excellent bowling of Harding accounted for Coker, as well as both Bannisters, to leave Maldon to finish on 209-7. Harding ending with figures of 16-5-28-4.

Halstead's reply did not get off to a good start, the wickets of Neale Dakin (0), Charlie Douglas-Hughes (5) and Mark Johnson (29) leaving them at 35-3.

A measured innings from Rory Simpson (18) alongside the more aggressive Freddie Preston (93) ticked Halstead along. The pair put on 82 runs, before a run out accounted for Simpson and J. Glenn had Graham Wickes (2) lbw.

Halstead were looking good at 171-5, but with the wicket of Preston, caught trying to hit a boundary, things started to turn Maldon's way. Some late order resistance from Alec Pyman (6) and David Elsbury (9) wasn't enough, as Halstead fell agonisingly short of their target.
