The third eleven took home the spoils in a thriller at the previously unbeaten Worlington II.

Worlington won the toss and batted on a superb batting track with a lightning fast outfield, made all the quicker by the hottest day of the year. They scored runs quickly early on, and despite tight spells from Justin Rose and Callum Hansey, they looked untroubled.

Some smart fielding work from Simon Legood and Hansey got a run out, but I. Roberts (62), A Gallop (54) and B. Bowens (50no) put Halstead to the sword. It would be spin that would take the other five wickets, Sam Walter (3-58) the pick, albeit at an expensive rate, with Worlington closing on 291-6.

The early wicket of Steve Macklin (1) did nothing to encourage Halstead, though Rose (168no) and Simon Rippingale (51) dug in. The pair putting on 128 for the second wicket, with Rippingale holing out after reaching his half-century.

Ben Morris (0) went the next ball, and from here on in it seemed a case of damage limitation. Legood (11) and Alex Rippingale (10) looked to rotate the strike, but it was not until Rose reached his ton that Halstead started to believe.

Some sloppy work in the field quickly reduced the runs required, and with Harry Pritchard (11) and Mark Harris (6no) content to knock the ball around and give Rose the strike, Halstead looked in a good position to chase it down,

Rose kicked in to a higher gear and proceeded to hit Worlington bowlers all around the park. The penultimate over going for 18 meant Halstead needed just seven off the last, with Rose finishing proceedings in style with a huge straight six,
