Witham v Halstead Cricket Club Sunday 1st XI on Sun 19 May 2013 at 13.00
Halstead Cricket Club Won by 9 runs
Match report
Halstead made it back-to-back victories in the NECL Division One at Witham.
They won the toss and chose to bat, but soon found themselves at 6-2. However skipper Charlie Douglas-Hughes (107) and Freddie Preston (54) added a superb 120 runs for the third wicket. Preston passed fifty, closely followed by Douglas-Hughes as some lax fielding let Halstead score quickly. Mark Johnson (25) and Luke Robinson (12*) rotated the strike for Douglas-Hughes to score only his second tonne for the club. Halstead closed on 234-7.
Witham's reply was anchored by the innings of Headly (73). After an early breakthrough from Joe Morris, he and Colynn (30) frustrated the tight Halstead bowling. They did however slip behind the run rate and when Dush Raviendran (3-32) came on he got rid of the pair and put Halstead in the drivers seat. Hawes (45) looked to have put Witham right back in the game, but when he fell to Douglas-Hughes they needed over eight an over. With Witham needing 15 off the last over, Halstead kept them down to complete an exciting 9 run victory.
