Halstead Cricket Club Won by 6 wickets

Match report Halstead I - 163-4 - beat Frinton II - 162-9 - by 6 wickets

Josh Wells' side continued their fine early season form, with a victory of Frinton II that sent them second in the Division One table.

Winning the toss and electing to field, Wells saw his side to an excellent early position as Ed Clark (2-27) and Wells (1-21) dismissed both Frinton openers - Alex Price and Tom Sinclair - for 5 to leave them 17-2.

Spinners Josh King (3-31) and Andy Charlton (1-21) further added to the host's pain, accounting for Joe Fowler (9) and James Baker (12) repsectively.

A 67 run 5th wicket partnership helped Frinton rebuild from 66-4, with skipper Sam Brynes (66) top scoring as he completed a half-century.

Brynes became King's second wicket, caught behind by Sam Chapman, with the Halstead keeper involved in the next dismissal as Dominic Stockdale (32) was stumped off the bowling of Chris Huntington.

Jermaine Shillingford (2) fell to the same bowler before King took his third wicket, that of Daniel Loveless (6).

Clark returned to the attack to get Robert Everson (10) - Wells taking a second slip catch - but Nikhil Patel (2*) and Anthony Stubbs (1*) saw out the innings, closing on 162-9.

Halstead's reply was in disarray early on as Huntington (0) was bowled by Stubbs in the first over, with Mark Johnson (7) and Graham Wickes (7) soon following him back to the pavilion courtesy of Brynes to be left at 27-3.

Wells' stunning early season form with the bat continued as the captain made yet another half-century in what proved to be a match-defining stand of 77 with Charlie Douglas-Hughes (32).

The all-rounder now averages 262 with the bat from four innings this season and sits 25 runs ahead atop the batting charts in Division One.

Craig Spooner (35*) hit three towering sixes to close out the game as Halstead brought home the bacon with 14 overs to spare.

Next week's crunch match against Woolpit will pit second against third with the teams curently both on 82 points.
