Halstead’s Third Eleven finally fell to their first league defeat of the season at the hands of local rivals Coggeshall.

Coggeshall were put into bat and made hay whilst the sun beat down on Morton’s Meadow, their top three of Alex Wickens (92), Ned Overbury (67) and Glen Bolton (50) all making half centuries as the Halstead attack toiled.

Mark Surridge (3-93) and Mark Harris (2-102) took the wickets, the latter taking the brunt of Sam Blackwell’s (32*) aggressive hitting to take Coggeshall to an imposing 294-6 from their 40 overs.

David Rawlinson (49), Gary Dicker (47) and Mark Surridge (45*) all hit forties in Halstead’s reply, but they were never up with the pace of a successful chase.

Ben Speakman (3-39), Theo Sivyer (2-53) and Phil Golding (1-46) took the wickets for the visitors.
