Halstead's Third Eleven finished their season with a four-wicket defeat at the hands of Dunmow II.

Mark Bloomfield's side went into the fixture knowing victory would assure promotion, but that defeat could see the hosts leapfrog them into second place.

Halstead batted first and Mark Surridge (20) and Mark Bloomfield (16) put on 43 for the first wicket, the pair falling in quick succession to Alex Rix (1-53) and Matt Cross (1-13) respectively.

Gary Dicker (65) and Sam Hawes (21) shared an 80-run third wicket stand, Paul Lewis (3-34) taking both their wickets along with that of David Rawlinson (0).

Simon Rippingale (19*) and Charles Mallett (23*) saw Halstead through to 193-5, the four batting bonus points accrued and restricting Dunmow to two bowling bonus points meant promotion was assured.

Despite knowing they could not go up, Dunmow made excellent progress in their chase, the unbeaten innings of opener Ryan Johnson (97*) setting up a comfortable chase.

Andrew Jones (1-43) dismissed Cross (11), whilst there was two wickets apiece for Mark Surridge (2-30) - those of Rohan Aswani (30) and Cameron Gibson (2) - and Mark Harris (2-44) - those of Ben Sedman (20) and Vinay Menon (2) - and one for Mark Bloomfield (1-19) - that of Andrew Brown (4).

Paul Lewis (10*) joined Johnson and the hosts reached their target with 7 overs to spare.

The promotion sees the 3rd XI returning to Division Seven of the Two Counties at the first time of asking.
