Halstead Cricket Club Lost by 6 wickets

Match report Halstead III - 130 all out - lost to Bardwell - 134-4 - by 6 wickets

The third eleven are still waiting for an elusive second win of the season as they went down by 6 wickets to visitors Bardwell on Saturday.

Batting first Halstead struggled to 130 all out, falling from 40-1 to 54-6 as the visiting bowlers - lead by Chris Grimwood (5-36) and Rick Wakeman (3-23) - were on song.

Sam Hawes (10) was the first to depart, caught at mid-off by Cameron Foreman off Joshua Kelly (1-13) before Mark Bloomfield (9) and Dave Brooker (14) started a rebuild.

Wakeman had bowled well early up without reward but soon dismissed Bloomfield, Brooker and Paul Cutmore (0) in quick succession as Halstead reached 46-4.

David Rawlinson (6) and Sam Hume (0) were the first of five victims for Chris Grimwood as Halstead continued to struggle, though Danny Lynn (24) provided brief respite, hitting 4 fours and a six in a counterattacking knock as part of a 36-run stand with Simon Rippingale (14).

Lynn was bowled by Grimwood with Steve Macklin (1) and Simon Rippingale also falling to the same bowler as he completed a five-wicket haul.

It was left to Alex Rippingale (16*) and Dave Hawes (8) to add 26 for the final wicket before the latter was bowled by Foreman (1-10) as the hosts were bowled out for 130 in 42 overs.

Halstead made an excellent start in their defence of a small total as Danny Lynn (1-46) bowled Michael Trewhella with no runs on the board, but Simon (43) and Joshua Kelly (37) put on 65 in quick fashion to reassert Bardwell's position.

Skipper Mark Bloomfield (1-20) broke the partnership, Dave Hawes taking a fine catch to dismiss Joshua Kelly, but Rick Wakeman backed up his figures of 3-23 off 11 with a quickfire 35 to take the game away from Halstead.

Dave Brooker (1-31) bowled Simon Kelly and Wakeman was caught by Simon Rippingale off Sam Hum (1-10) but it was too little too late as Jacob Wade (10*) hit a four and six to see Bardwell home with 20 overs to spare.
