Halstead Cricket Club Saturday 3rd XI v Melton St Audrys on Sat 20 Jul 2019 at 13:00
Halstead Cricket Club Lost by 101 runs

Match report Halstead III - 213-3 - lost to Melton St Audry's - 314-8 - by 101 runs

A maiden Halstead century for wicketkeeper-batsman Sam Hawes was the highlight of an otherwise disappointing day for the 3rd XI.

At a break for rain after eight overs the hosts were firmly in control, having reduced their visitors to 16-4, but 138 from Jothi Barnsley-Sadasavan and 894 from Adrian Smith turned the match in favour of the Suffolk side.

Morgan Whymark (4-78) and Alex Rippingale (3-55) braces did the early damage before Barnsley-Sadasavan and Smith put the Halstead attack to the sword, striking 25 fours and 8 sixes between them.

Barnsley-Sadasavan passed his century and continued motoring until he was caught and bowled by Whymark.

Smith picked up the pace with Weller (28) contributing down the order as Melton St Audry's finished on 314-8 from their 40 overs.

Halstead lost Danny Lynn (0) to Andy Smith (2-40) in the first over but skipper Mark Bloomfield (62) and Hawes (105) put on 123 for the second wicket as Halstead looked relatively comfortable if not up with the required rate.

The skipper passed his half-century but was bowled by Barnsley-Sadavasan (1-23), leaving Hawes and 13-year old James Tyson (16*) to continue the chase.

Hawes brought up his maiden Halstead century to warm applause from the spectators, having hit 11 fours and 2 sixes in a measured innings.

An athletic return catch from Smith ended Hawes' innings, but Simon Rippingale (18*) and Tyson batted through to the end of their 40 overs.
