Galleywood v Halstead Cricket Club Sunday 1st XI on Sun 30 Jun 2019 at 13:00
Halstead Cricket Club Won by 24 runs
Match report
Halstead - 177 all out - beat Galleywood - 153 all out - by 24 runs
Another all-round performance from Mark Johnson helped Halstead to their only win of the weekend, beating the hosts Galleywood by 24 runs on Sunday.
Halstead won the toss and batted first, Johnson (57) and Josh King (26) putting on 59 for the first wicket, the latter seeing his middle stump sent cartwheeling by Euan Singleton (2-42).
Charles Mallett (1) was stumped by Neil Bates off Tim Dethridge (2-28) shortly after, whilst Joe Morris (9) played on to Lewis Sibbons (1-20).
Johnson passed his fifty alongside Sam Hawes, the pair taking Halstead past 100 before Hawes hit Duncan Walton (2-26) straight to Paul Marlow at midwicket.
Johnson's 78-ball innings came to an end when bowled by Dethridge, with 13-year old James Tyson (9) falling in the same fashion to Walton after playing some nice cover drives early on.
Callum Hansey (8) and Sam Johnson (19*) ran well as the overs remaining started to dwindle, but the former took a chance too many and was run out by Charlie Murray.
Morgan Whymark (3) was also run out, this time by Bates, and Matthew Tyson (0) bowled by the returning Singleton as ten-man Halstead ended on 177 all out in the final over.
A ferocious opening spell from Joe Morris (3-17) and tight bowling from Callum Hansey (2-28) reduced the hosts to 31-4 as Tom Nurcombe (1), Tim Dethridge (0) and Craig Singleton (0) were all bowled by Morris and Charlie Murray (27) bowled by Hansey. Murray hitting 6 fours in his 14-ball stay at the crease.
When Conor Hicks (12) edged Morgan Whymark (1-13) behind to Sam Hawes, the keeper taking a sharp reaction catch, things looked bleak for Galleywood.
However, Zack Hicks (50) and Paul Marlow (24) had other plans, slowly accumulating as Halstead cycled through their bowlers, Matthew Tyson (0-17) and Josh King (0-30) going wicketless but bowling well.
The Galleywood pair put on 66 for the sixth wicket, with Hicks deservedly passing his 50 with 45 needed for victory.
Two wickets in two balls would turn the game for Halstead, Hicks hitting a forceful cut shot off Mark Johnson (4-15) toward point where Charles Mallett took a superb one-handed catch high above his head.
The next ball Marlow skied Hansey to Mallett at mid-off and with that the Galleywood chase faltered.
Lewis Sibbons (2) was bowled by Johnson, whilst Neil Bates (1) was caught behind by Hawes off the same bowler.
Euan Singleton (9*) and Duncan Walton (6) took Galleywood past 150 but the latter was bowled by Johnson to give the seamer his fourth wicket and ten-man Halstead an important win.
