Mistley v Halstead Cricket Club Sunday 1st XI on Sun 14 Jul 2019 at 13:00
Halstead Cricket Club Lost by 19 runs

Match report Halstead - 153-6 - lost to Mistley - 172-7 - by 19 runs

Halstead came close but ultimately fell short in their chase in a 30 over game at Mistley. The match was reduced to allow both teams to watch the end of England's World Cup victory over New Zealand.

Mistley won the toss and elected to bat, with William Bailey (11) the first wicket to fall, run out by a Matt Cooper direct hit from square leg.

Callum O'Connell (1) gloved Sam Johnson (1-26) down leg-side to keeper Liam Jones before a 42-run stand between George Hutton (21) and James Scott (77) steadied things for the hosts.

Ben Roper (2-24) found prodigious turn to bowl Hutton, with Tom Young (0) caught one-handed by Joe Morris at cover soon after.

Harrison Rogers (1) and Damien Smith (5) were both bowled by Halstead skipper Josh King (2-23) to further reduce Mistley to 86-6.

Scott passed his half-century, putting on 58 with South African Khalipha Cele (33*) before mishitting Callum Hansey (1-43) to Cooper at long on.

Cele and Tim Scott (15*) plundered 25 off Hansey's final over in what would prove to be a matchwinning effort, dragging Mistley to 172-7 from their 30 overs.

Halstead started slowly as Callum Hansey (3) hit a simple chance off Alastair Day (1-22) to Damien Smith at catching mid-on, with Liam Jones (11) and Morgan Whymark (6) both stumped by Tom Young off Khalipha Cele (2-6).

Josh King (37) and Joe Morris (73) rebuilt and pushed Halstead into a commanding position, mainly thanks to the latter's crisp hitting - taking 21 from a Harry Fifield over to reach 50.

The pair put on 99, but when Morris was bowled by Tim Scott (1-6) for an excellent 48-ball 73, with 51 needed off 45 balls the Halstead chase faltered.

James Tyson (4) occupied the crease but found runs hard to come by before he too was bowled, this time by Damien Smith (1-24) and King was run out by a Callum O'Connell direct hit, leaving Ben Roper (10*) and Lewis Brennan (5*) 19 runs short at the end of the 30 overs.
