Match report A superb unbeaten 100 from David Rawlinson (109*) saw the 3rd XI to an improbable win at local rivals Earls Colne on Saturday.

The visitors had been reduced to 8-4 and 33-7 in their pursuit of 152, but Rawlinson crashed 11 fours and 4 sixes as he marshalled the tail to a one-wicket win.

Earls Colne batted first and racked up 151-6 from their 40 overs, Colin Holdgate's unbeaten 47 the pick of the batsmen, with skipper Daryl Sleeman (28), Dave Moon (21*) and Patrick Kerry (18) the others to reach double figures. Morgan Whymark (3-23), Matt Tyson (2-22) and Andrew Jones (1-18) took the wickets for Halstead. Though wicketless, James Tyson bowled well in tandem with his twin brother, Matt.

An early Harry Porcher wicket (1-15) sparked a collapse for Halstead as no batsman other than Rawlinson reached double figure, with Dave Moon (6-11) the chief destroyer.

Rawlinson finally found support from Andrew Jones (8) - adding 80 for eighth wicket - but when Barrie Morris (7) fell, Halstead still needed 23 for victory.

Halstead's number three brought up his century with 8 still needed, though he hit the first ball of the final over for 6 to clinch a brilliant victory.

The game also marked an appearance in 50 consecutive season for Alan Elsbury, having made his HCC debut back in 1972. Congrats Alan!
