Match report Halstead II - 155-9 - lost to Eight Ash Green - 156-4 by 6 wickets

Halstead never recovered from the loss of early wickets and setting a below par total as Eight Ash Green ran out six wicket winners on Saturday.

Justin Rose (4), Matt Cooper (2) and Ian Pont (16) all fell afoul of mishitting Ollie Firmin (4-50) deliveries straight to fielders, with Neale Dakin (19) doing the same off Jonathan Purser (1-18) to leave Halstead reeling at 50-4.

Luke Robinson (35) - promoted to number five - and David Baalham (28) - a late addition to the side - steadied the ship and added a valuable 58-run stand for the fifth wicket.

Both fell with the scores on 108 - Baalham playing on to his stumps off Ollie Stovell (1-20) and Robinson bowled through the gate by Ali Woodcock (3-33) - as Eight Ash Green took a firm grip on proceedings.

Stand-in skipper Andrew Clark (17) and Chairman Dave Brooker (11*) added a further 22 runs for the seventh wicket, but Woodcock had Clark stumped by Richard Parker and bowled Charles Mallett (7), whilst Firmin returned to have Mark Harris caught by Keith Hammond - the Eight Ash Green Skipper's third catch - as Halstead finished on 155-9 from their 45 overs.

Justin Rose (1-43) claimed the early wicket of Steve Nunn (6) - top-edging to Andrew Clark - but Keith (31) and Alex Hammond (49) put on 53 for the second wicket as Eight Ash Green were seemingly cruising to victory.

Two wickets in three balls for Luke Robinson (2-35) gave Halstead hope - Keith Hammond miscuing a pull to Dave Brooker at mid-on and Jonathan Purser (0) being bowled - meant it was 70-2, but Alex Hammond and Oliver Mewis put the hosts back on course.

Callum Hansey (1-16) trapped Hammond lbw a run short of his half-century, but from 111-4 there were no further mistakes and Mewis (32*) and Ollie Stovell (15*) saw Eight Ash Green to victory.
