Match report The Second XI's wait for victory goes on as they were once again the architects of their own downfall in a 48 run defeat to Nacton.

The visitors won the toss and batted first, with Ben Glading (43) and Ben Connelly (35) racing into a 69-run opening stand, before Glading chopped on off skipper Justin Rose (1-32).

John Clinch (2-52) soon trapped Michael Utting LBW and with the scores on 106-2, Connelly's luck ran out shortly after, caught at the third time of asking to give Clinch his second wicket.

Nacton proceeded to lose four wickets for just 21 as Chris Roper (4-55) accounted for Oliver Butcher (23), Jack Lord (11) and James Gray (0), but a match-defining stand of 73 between Jack Coomber (29) and Corey Stockwell (55) for the seventh wicket turned the game.

Stockwell was dropped in the deep on 17 - one of eight drops in the innings - but made the most of his reprieve, reaching a belligerent half-century and taking the visitors past 200. Roper picked up Stockwell's wicket soon after, with Sam Walter (2-28) and an Adam Morris run out ensuring Nacton were bowled out off the final delivery of their innings.

Halstead started their reply in patient fashion, Adam Morris (24) and John Clinch (15) putting on 42 for the first wicket, though the pair fell in quick succession. Clinch was caught and bowled by Alex Brunt (1-34) before Morris was run out by the same player.

Charles Mallett (32) and Justin Rose (54) got Halstead into an excellent position at 114-2, but the former's dismissal - hitting a long hop from Corey Stockwell (2-66) straight to cover - proceeded some disappoint dismissals as the Halstead middle order gifted their wickets, Jack Coomber (4-15) the main beneficiary.

A partnership between Rose and Callum Hansey (18) briefly threatened to get Halstead back in with a sniff, but when Rose was caught in the deep shortly after passing 50 the game was gone as the hosts lost their final four wickets for just four runs.
