Halstead Chairman Hits first ton for

01 May 2013

Mark Surridge, Halstead Chairman, Sunday Captain, and veteran all-rounder,scored his first century for the Club since he joined back in 1982. 'It's been a long wait and long overdue, ' he said, ' but when you have spent your time batting after prolific run scorers like Neale Dakin, John Clinch, Paul Harris, Darren Robinson, and Phil Toogood you've spent a lot of time with your pads on waiting your turn.'

Surridge hit thirteen fours and three sixes in his first century for twenty years, as Halstead just failed to bring off a surprise victory over Coggesahall reaching 202-6 chasing down Coggeshall's 210- 7. ' I think my last ton was for the Gents of Essex against Dunmow , back in 1992, but it's so long ago I cannot remember exactly, I just know that Ray East was playing as Keith Fletcher wanted him to get in some practice for Essex as they began their title run in'

Surridge who has played for both Essex Over 50s and now the Over 60s was picked to play for England Over 60s last summer against Australia but had to pull out through injury, hopes the opportunity will come round again. 'As all sportsmen of my age , not to mention football managers say, I shall simply take each game as it comes and just be grateful that I am still playing.'
