Match reportThe first eleven fell to a narrow defeat at Coggeshall. Batting first they used up their allotted 50 overs, with Chris Rayner top scoring with 65. He was ably supported by Tom Peacock (23) and Charlie Douglas-Hughes (37) at the top of the order. Digby Harding (28) added runs in the tail as Halstead set 188-8.

Dean Feyneysey was in superb form in the Coggeshall reply, getting the ball to swing considerably. He returned figures of 5-41 off 12 overs. However Halstead seemed to be a little short, with Coggeshall never straying far from the required rate. An anchoring innings from Jimmy Rees (81*) saw them home with two overs to spare.

Halstead Cricket Club Lost by 76 runs

Match reportCoggeshall II ran out victors at Star Stile, completing the double for Coggeshall sides on the day. Batting first they racked up the runs, with Lloyd Edwards (75), Ben Chaplin (49) and Charlie Green (41) leading the way. This was despite the efforts of Simon Steel, who bowled 11 overs for just 34 runs, taking three wickets in the process. George Edwards (2-47) was the next best bowler. Coggeshall closed on 259-9.

In reply, a few Halstead batsmen got starts, but could not kick on to get the big scores they needed. Ian Pont (36) and Brian Coleman (21)got the innings off to a decent start, but Halstead were always behind the rate. David Baalham (30) and George Edwards (20*) added runs through the order, but Halstead fell 76 runs short. Closing on 183-8.

Halstead Cricket Club Won by 104 runs

Match reportThe third eleven secured Halstead's first Saturda win of the season, with a comprehensive victory over Lakenheath II. 

David Rawlinson (47) scored well at the top of the order as Halstead looked relatively untroubled from the outset. A mini wobble ensued prior to Ben Morris (86*) and Simon Rippingale (64*) coming to the crease. The pair added over 100 runs without loss as 13 year old Morris scored his maiden senior half century alongside stalwart Rippingale. Halstead closed on 263-4.

Lakenheath never really threatened in reply. They lost early wickets to the bowling of Justin Rose (1-26) and Andrew Jones (3-52). The Palmer family added a valuable proportion of Lakenheath's total between the three of them in the middle of the order. But tight bowling from Jones and Callum Hansey kept them well behind the rate. Young spinners Ben Roper (3-26) and Harry Pritchard (2-21) took the last five wickets quickly to give Halstead victory.

Match reportHalstead advanced through the preliminary round of the Piri Piri Knockout Cup with a thorough beating of Boxted.

Halstead's bowlers ripped through Boxted's top and middle orders as their batsmen struggled massively. George Edwards (2-17) and Sam Walter (2-30) returned good figures, but the pick of the bowlers was by far Freddie Preston. He took three wickets for zero runs off of three overs. C. Wilson and P. Harris added an unbroken 77 runs for the ninth wicket to set a target of 137.

Matt St. John (21) made a good impression on debut, but with Halstead at 37-3 Matt Webb (55*) and Preston (48*) came together. The pair looked at ease as they picked off the Boxted bowlers for boundaries and saw Halstead home. Their partnership worth 101 at the close. Halstead's reward is a home fixture on the 2nd of June.

Halstead Cricket Club Won by 53 runs

Match reportHalstead finally recorded a victor in Piri Piri league competition, ending a run of 22 games without a win, when West Mersea visited on Bank Holiday Monday.

Goush Raviendran (39) and Chris Rayner (26) set the innings up nicely, before a middle order wobble left Halstead at 92-7. This brought together Digby Harding (87) and Joe Morris (25) who added 105 runs for the eighth wicket. Harding looking to attack at every opportunity. Halstead were bowled out for 209, O'Regan (3-55) the pick of the bowlers.

West Mersea's reply started off at a quick pace, before an excellent reaction catch by Mark Johnson off of Rayner (1-24) got rid of Mills. Dropped catches and other missed opportunities combined with some quick if unorthodox run scoring from Rutter (27), Taylor (28) and White (40) started to take the game away from Halstead. Ben Morris (1-20) dismissed the dangerous Rutter and the introduction of spin in the forms of Ben Roper (1-11), Sam Walter (1-22) and particularly Harding (3-25) tuurned the tide. From there on Mersea collapsed, Callum Hansey (2-12) cleaning up the tail.
