Match reportHalstead fell to a narrow defeat in an exciting Two Counties Division One clash at Mildenhall.

Having lost the toss, Halstead were put in to bat. Neale Dakin (56) was the top scorer in Halstead's innings, the opener lead from the front with some fine stroke play. He was supported by Mark Johnson (26) at the top of the order. Mildenhall's bowling was tight, but Halstead added runs throughout the order, both Chris Rayner (23) and Ed Merry (23) making valuable contributions. Halstead were bowled out in the 50th over, having amassed 188 runs. James Holmes was the pick of the home bowlers with 4-47.

Mildenhall's reply faltered early on, with both openers being dismissed for single figures. Erik Laubscher (48) and Andrew Squires (25) rebuilt, but after their stand wickets again fell. Robert Harris (4-60), Digby Harding (3-53) and Freddie Preston (2-38) bowling well. A tense finale was set up, with Mildenhall taking it to the last three balls before getting to their target.

Match reportThe second eleven were outplayed at home to Abberton in Division Three.

They were put in to bat by Abberton, who soon reaped rewards with the early wicket of Matt Webb. Cath Dalton (19), with first Graham Cook (19) then Simon Steel (24) proceeded to put Halstead back in a good position. However three wickets, those of Dalton, Steel and Justin Rose, fell for no runs, falling from 72-2 to 72-5. Tristan Blackledge (39) and David Baalham (24) played measured innings' as they looked to ensure Halstead used up their overs. A late burst from Mike Booker kept the runs down as he finished with 5-36, Halstead making 152-9 off 45 overs.

Abberton's reply was looking slow at the start, Tristan Blackledge and Cath Dalton both claiming LBWs to leave Abberton at 44-2. However ex-Halstead player Richard Moxon (73 n.o.) and Jonathan Ward (46 n.o.) offered few chances as they settled in and took Abberton home with almost a third of the overs remaining.

Halstead Cricket Club Saturday 3rd XI v Bury St Edmunds IV on Sat 18 May 2013 at 13.00

Match reportHalstead's third eleven were disappointed to lose in the closing stages at home to Bury St Edmunds IV.

Halstead won the toss and elected to bat, something that looked wise when Alan Elsbury (65) and Gerry Jennings (42) added 127 runs for it. However after the partnership was broken, Halstead scored slowly. A late burst from Andy Rose (28 n.o.) and debutant Adam Page (17) took them up to 190-5. Sourab Gupta was the pick of Bury's bowlers with 3-34.

It would be Gupta (57) in partnership with Frank Stennet (58) who would pave the way for Bury's victory. The pair put on 109 for the second wicketm but by then the damage was done. Extras were particularly costly for Halstead, 26 of them and Max Whittaker's 28 not out were enough to see Bury across the line with two overs to spare. Ben Roper was Halstead's best bowler with 3-60.

Witham v Halstead Cricket Club Sunday 1st XI on Sun 19 May 2013 at 13.00
Halstead Cricket Club Won by 9 runs

Match reportHalstead made it back-to-back victories in the NECL Division One at Witham.

They won the toss and chose to bat, but soon found themselves at 6-2. However skipper Charlie Douglas-Hughes (107) and Freddie Preston (54) added a superb 120 runs for the third wicket. Preston passed fifty, closely followed by Douglas-Hughes as some lax fielding let Halstead score quickly. Mark Johnson (25) and Luke Robinson (12*) rotated the strike for Douglas-Hughes to score only his second tonne for the club. Halstead closed on 234-7.

Witham's reply was anchored by the innings of Headly (73). After an early breakthrough from Joe Morris, he and Colynn (30) frustrated the tight Halstead bowling. They did however slip behind the run rate and when Dush Raviendran (3-32) came on he got rid of the pair and put Halstead in the drivers seat. Hawes (45) looked to have put Witham right back in the game, but when he fell to Douglas-Hughes they needed over eight an over. With Witham needing 15 off the last over, Halstead kept them down to complete an exciting 9 run
