Halstead Cricket Club Lost by 11 runs

Match reportThe first eleven's search for a victory continues as they fell to a narrow defeat at home to Maldon.

Batting first, Maldon started off well, with both openers getting starts as part of a 77 run partnership. Digby Harding had J. GLenn (39) caught and bowled before Robert Harris trapped C. Harris (32) lbw. 

Maldon moved on to 100, then lost another two wickets in quick succession, both to the bowling of Harris. N. Simpson (57 n.o.) and M. Coker (42) added 87 runs for the fifth wicket, but the again excellent bowling of Harding accounted for Coker, as well as both Bannisters, to leave Maldon to finish on 209-7. Harding ending with figures of 16-5-28-4.

Halstead's reply did not get off to a good start, the wickets of Neale Dakin (0), Charlie Douglas-Hughes (5) and Mark Johnson (29) leaving them at 35-3. 

A measured innings from Rory Simpson (18) alongside the more aggressive Freddie Preston (93) ticked Halstead along. The pair put on 82 runs, before a run out accounted for Simpson and J. Glenn had Graham Wickes (2) lbw. 

Halstead were looking good at 171-5, but with the wicket of Preston, caught trying to hit a boundary, things started to turn Maldon's way. Some late order resistance from Alec Pyman (6) and David Elsbury (9) wasn't enough, as Halstead fell agonisingly short of their target.

Felixstowe v Halstead Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI on Sat 25 May 2013 at 13.00

Match reportThe second eleven were comfortably beaten by eight wickets away at Felixstowe.

Halstead batted first on a pitch that was difficult to play shots on early in the day. Felixstowe's bowling was tight, but extras was the second highest scorer of the innings. Only one batsman, Ian Pont (46) made double figures for Halstead, his partnership with Mark Surridge (8) moving the side from 25-4 to 71-5. Though the tail did not wag and Halstead were bowled out for a well below par 91.

Felixstowe batted well throughout their reply. Tristan Blackledge and Ian Pont claimed a wicket apiece, but a composed innings from the youngster Parker (51 n.o.) was enough to seeFelixstowe to victory in under 20 overs.

Battisford v Halstead Cricket Club Saturday 3rd XI on Sat 25 May 2013 at 13.00
Halstead Cricket Club Lost by 77 runs

Match reportThe third eleven came up short in the batting department in their trip to Battisford, losing by 77 runs.

Battisford batted first and had contributions made throughout the order. A. Whitefield (44), Taylor (31) and Nijhawan (33) all scored well in the middle of the innings, to help put together a decent total of 193-8. Justin Rose was the pick of the bowlers with 3-52.

Halstead's reply just did not have those runs throughout the innings, Rose top scoring amongst batsmen with 26, though a staggering thirty wides certainly helped Halstead's cause. A fine bowling display from Taylor backed up his batting. He finished with five wickets for 21 runs off of ten overs. Three wickets for Buck helped to clean up the tail as Halstead were all out for 116.

Halstead Cricket Club Sunday 1st XI v High Easter on Sun 26 May 2013 at 13.00
Halstead Cricket Club Won by 106 runs

Match reportA big crowd in the marquee were treated to a feast of runs on Sunday as Halstead extended their winning Piri Piri competitions run to four games.

High Easter were the opponents and had Halstead in a tricky position of 36-2 early on. Goush Raviendran (26) scoring the majority of those runs. Mark Johnson (23) and then Freddie Preston (21) helped to tick the score along, though they mainly gave the strike to Josh Wells (135), who played an imperious innings. He put on nearly fifty with Johnson and over fifty with Preston.

Next in came Digby Harding (67 n.o.), who continued in the same vein as Wells. They added 94 runs for the sixth wicket. Wells had scored 18 boundaries in his knock before getting caught going for a nineteenth. Halstead managed to reach 300 runs for the first time since a home match against Easton three years earlier.

High Easter started off well in reply as Haris Mahmood (72) and Ben Gold (18) scored well, if a little slowly. Ben Morris got the breakthrough, Golds holing out in the deep. Harding then bowled Fahran Mahmood (11) before a superb spell from Callum Hansey took the game away from High Easter. He claimed three wickets for just twelve runs in seven overs.

Goush Raviendran then took two wickets in the closing stages and a great piece of work form Hansey secured a run out as High Easter finished on 202-8, to give Halstead a 106 run victory.
