Halstead Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI v Brightlingsea I on Sat 01 Jun 2013 at 13.00
Halstead Cricket Club Won by 3 wickets
Match report
The second eleven also got their first win of the campaign with a well deserved defeat of Brightlingsea.
Brightlingsea batted first and lost quick wickets at the top of the order. Ian Pont had Barry (7) trapped lbw, he then took the catch of Baker (19) off the bowling of Tristan Blackledge.
Pont had Cracknell (10) caught behind then Justin Rose dismissed Gould (8) to leave Brightlingsea reeling at 49-4. MacDonald (45) rebuilt with first Hindley (20) and then Barton (32 n.o.) to take Brightlingsea up to 140. A further two lbw decisions, to Rose and Blackledge swung the game back Halstead's way.
Brightlingsea fell from 176-6 to close on 181-9. Blackledge took a third wicket, Steel taking one and a run out.
An early breakthrough wicket of Adam Morris (0) proved to be a false dawn for Brightlingsea as most of the Halstead line-up played measured innings, ticking along the run scoring.
Matthew Webb (26) and Blackledge (32) played composed knocks as Halstead's run chase progressed. Simon Steel's (65) powerful knock took the game away from their opponents, and despite a flurry of late wickets, David Baalham (23 n.o.) saw Halstead home to a three wicket win.
