Match report The brunt of the injuries and unavailability this weekend was borne by the second team at Bury.

Having lost the toss, Halstead were asked to field. Opening with Ben Morris - on his second team debut - and spin bowler Sam Walter, Halstead made early breakthroughs. Morris had Ben Bellward (0), a regular fixture in Bury's EAPL side, caught in the slips first ball. Tight bowling from Walter and Callum Hansey frustrated the Bury batsmen as they struggled to get the ball away. Hansey having Nick Curran (18) caught behind and Walter getting Don Logan (7) to misjudge a cut and play on.

Simon Aldous (85 n. o.) offered few chances as he set about rebuilding from 43-3 alongside Marcus Price (49). Price rode his luck at times, being dropped when in the teens, but the pair added 112 runs for the fourth wicket. Once Hansey and Walter were off scoring became a bit easier, as Bury tucked in to the Halstead attack, plundering their way to 228-6, after being 90-3 at halfway.

Halstead's reply was slow and never really got going. The Bury bowlers bowled tight lines, following Halstead's lead of opening with spin, they caused Halstead to fall to 44-4. David Rawlinson (12), David Baalham (20) and Matthew Webb (30) made the only innings of note in the top order. Chris Coleman, joining his brother Brian for his first game at the club, backed up an excellent catch with a gritty 12, but aside for Mark Surridge (24 n.o.) no one else made double figures.

Halstead frustrated Bury to bat out the full 45 overs, with Walter bringing up the 125 and potentially a valuable fifth bonus point.
