Match report Club stalwart hits winning runs

Halstead's third eleven secured the only win on Saturday with a hard fought victory over Haverhill III.

Haverhill batted first, with Arvid Gunderson (60) top scoring, ably supported by Phil Dingley (23) and Tom Baker (22 n.o.). Mark Harris was the pick of Halstead's bowlers, his spin returning figures of 4-39 off of fourteen overs. Andrew Jones returned from injury as Halstead restricted their opponents to 179-9.

Despite having a relatively low total to chase, Haverhill's bowling meant Halstead's start was slow. Andy Rose's (27) innings was fast paced, but things slowed down as they were reduced to 59-3. Simon Rippingale (38) made a captain's knock, whilst his son Alex (16) continued the good work by supporting man of the match Harris (47). His dismissal triggered a collapse as Halstead fell to 169-9. However it was left to Jones (15 n.o.) and veteran glovesman Brian Dunster (4 n.o.) to guide Halstead home. A cultured shot through mid wicket for four from Dunster was enough to see Halstead across the line in the final over.
