Halstead Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI v Mistley on Sat 13 Aug 2016 at 13.00
Halstead Cricket Club Won by 41 runs
Match report
The 1st XI's long, winless streak was finally broken on Saturday with a 41 run victory over Mistley.
It was against the same team on April 28th that Halstead last saw a Division One victory, Saturday's result snapping a run of ten games without a win.
Halstead won the toss and elected to bat first at Star Stile, Larvet Masunda opening the batting alongside Neale Dakin.
Halstead were quickly reduced to 18-1 as Dakin was caught behind by Butcher off of the bowling of Fifield.
Mark Johnson joined Masunda at the crease, with the pair making steady progress, passing both the 50 run and 50-partnership marks.
Masunda had hit five fours and a solitary six in his knock of 41 before he was trapped LBW by Leeke.
Skipper Josh Wells was the new man in and he scored quickly, going at a run a ball for most of his innings.
Johnson brought up his first half-century of the season as Halstead sat at 132-2 with 20 overs remaining.
Two wickets fell in relatively quick succession as Johnson was caught for 55 by Walsh off of Scott and Wells caught by Goff off of Leeke for 34.
Harry Veal and Chris Rayner came together at 152-4 and the pair worked well for their runs, adding 54 runs for the fifth wicket, securing maximum batting points for the hosts.
Veal (30) was the man out as he hit a full toss from Pembroke to Butcher in the 45th over.
Halstead's tail wagged with brothers Adam (15) and Joe Morris (12) helping the hosts post 242-9 from their allotted 50 overs.
The Halstead quicks bowled well at the top of the Mistley reply for no reward, with the Swans moving the score to 47-0 off of 11 overs as G. Butcher and Walsh looked comfortable.
The pair had built a stand worth 75 when the introduction of spin in the forms of Sam Walter and Chris Roper turned the game in Halstead's favour, Walter trapping the dangerous Walsh LBW for 38.
Roper had Scott (11) caught by Johnson and Walter bowled Goff (1) to reduce the visitors to 102-3 at the halfway stage of proceedings.
Stockton and Butcher moved the score on from 102-3 to 121, with the latter passing his half-century, but some sharp work behind the stumps from Masunda gave Walter another wicket as Butcher was stumped.
A. Butcher was caught and bowled by Roper for 6 as Halstead's tails were up.
Josh Wells took up the gloves to bring Masunda into the attack, a move that paid dividends as the Zimbabwean helped rattle through the Mistley tail.
Masunda had Dove (12) caught by Veal whilst Joe Morris returned to the attack to dismiss Stockton(40) - caught behind by Wells - and Pembroke (0) caught by Rayner.
Masunda then had Scott (24) caught by Dakin and he bowled Leeke (0) to wrap up a much needed win for Halstead.
The 1s remain third-bottom in Division One, but now have a 13 point cushion over second bottom Hadleigh.
