Match report The Second Eleven fell to an agonising one-wicket defeat in a thriller against their Haverhill counterparts.

From an imposing position of 76-0 in the 10th over - courtesy of some big-hitting from Sadaat Salim (26) and Ian Pont (69) - the visitors lost ten wickets for 73 runs as their batting frailties showed through.

Justin Rose (22) was the only other player to score double figures with Lee Phillips (5-33) Charles Shannon (2-25) and Harry Harding (2-24) doing the damage.

Haverhill took the 7 unused overs off of Halstead for their chase, which would prove to be vital.

Salim trapped Fox LBW for 0 and Mark Harris had Liam Savage caught for 2 as Haverhill lurched to 33-2.

A stand of 43 followed between Sam Hartshorn and R. Dovaston, which put the hosts in the strong position of 76-2 from 17 overs.

Two wickets fell in an over as Ian Pont trapped Dovaston LBW and Poole nicked behind to Gary Dicker for 0.

When Phillips was bowled by mark Harris for 5, Haverhill were still just 60 runs away from their target with thirty overs left to be bowled, however a flurry of wickets soon fell.

They went to 96-8 as Hartshorn's excellent, battling knock came to an end on 52, caught by Salim off of Harris, Charles Shannon was run out and Greg street was trapped lbw, again by Harris.

J. Woodley was joined by P. Dingley at the crease and the pair knocked off the singles required to push them ever closer to their target in what would prove to be a match changing 42 run 9th wicket stand.

Salim bowled Dingley with 12 required, to set up a nervy finish for both sides, but it was left to the left-arm spinner Harding to edge the winning runs through gully for the home side.
