Match report Halstead 2nd XI – 125-8 – lost to Elmstead 2nd XI – 128-3 – by 7 wickets

The search for a first victory goes on for Andy Rose’s side as the 2nd XI were well beaten by their Elmstead counterparts.

Halstead’s 125-8 was always well below a par score on a flat pitch and lightning fast outfield and owed a lot to excellent spells from the Elmstead openers Wilson (10-1-18-1) and Rishworth (8-1-13-2).

Graham Wickes (52) made the only impression with the bat, but found the fielders all too often in his 122 ball vigil. The next highest scorer was extras with 19.

Pushman (14-2-50-1) and Khaira (13-2-37-2) kept the middle order in check and restricted runs well as only David Baalham (16) and Andy Rose (12) managed double figures with the bat.

The Elmstead batsmen made light work of their chase, all of them getting starts as they chanced their arm on a good wicket.

Sheekey (23) was caught at short fine leg by Rose after coming down the wicket to Callum Hansey and Eadie (37) was stumped by Andy Clark off Mark Harris, but Elmstead never looked troubled.

Worsley (38) was dropped multiple times before he was bowled by Aaron Read, but Khaira (17*) and Prestney (4*) saw Elmstead to a comfortable 7 wicket victory with 20 overs to spare.

Halstead are left in the relegation zone of Division Four, a point above Coggeshall II at the bottom.
