Halstead Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI v Eight Ash Green on Sat 26 May 2018 at 13:00
Halstead Cricket Club Lost by 78 runs
Match report
HCC - 185 all out - lost to Eight Ash Green - 263-5 - by 78 runs
The second XI were convincingly beaten by Eight Ash Green on Saturday, with two visiting centuries putting the hosts to the sword.
James Parker (109) and Alex Hammond (109*) shared a 170-run second wicket stand on a hot Saturday at Star Stile.
The pair made the most of a batsman's paradise, coming together after Aaron Read picked up the early wicket of Steve Nunn (10) with 30 on the board.
Hammond was dropped at slip first ball, but gave no further chances on his way to a century. Both he and Parker hit 10 fours, though the latter also hit two maximums as Halstead struggled struggled to keep runs down in the field.
Mark Harris (3-44) picked up wickets toward the end of the visitors' innings and Read (2-75) returned to the attack to pick up his second, but the damage had already been done.
Neale Dakin (8) hit two glorious boundaries but chipped Oli Firmin to Tony Lee at mid-off as Halstead's chase started in inauspicious circumstances.
Justin Rose (82) and Andrew Clark (41) shared 99 for the second wicket, but a required rate that started just below 6 kept creeping up to 8.5 an over as the innings went on.
Aliaster Woodcock's slow left arm claimed 7-61 - including the dangermen Rose, Clark and Andy Rose (27) as the Halstead batsmen once again capitulated in their chase after the latter's dismissal, losing 8 wickets for just 24 runs.
