Nacton v Halstead Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI on Sat 02 Jun 2018 at 13:00
Halstead Cricket Club Won by 9 wickets
Match report
HCC II - 175-1 - beat Nacton - 174-5 - by 9 wickets
The second eleven's long wait for a victory was finally ended at the 20th time of asking. The 9 wicket win over Nacton was their first since beating Haverhill II nearly a year ago on June 17th 2017.
In a game reduced to 33 overs due to the ongoing threat of torrential rain, the visitors won the toss and eleceted to field.
Ben Connelly (50) and Corey Stockwell (29) got the hosts off to a steady start against seamers Justin Rose (0-47) and Mark Johnson (2-37).
Johnson broke the 40-run partnership courtesy of an Adam Morris catch to dismiss Stockwell and soon had Jonathan Warner (9) trapped LBW.
Ben Glading (18) helped the score past 100 before he fell to the returning Sam Walter (1-32) with David Baalham taking the catch.
Connelly reached his half-century in a 51-run stand with Nacton captain Jack Coomber (46*) but did not add to his score as he was caught and bowled by Chris Roper (1-52).
Deepak Manoharan (13) was run out by Andrew Clark as Nacton closed on 174-5 from their 33 overs.
Halstead's reply got off to the worst possible start as Justin Rose was bowled by Stockwell without scoring, however that would prove to be the only joy for Nacton.
Neale Dakin (81*) and Clark (74*) built a strong partnership, accumulating early on before going through the gears in a game-deciding 169 run stand.
Dakin hit 12x4s with Clark hitting 8x4s and 2x6s as Halstead romped home with three overs to spare.
