Halstead Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI v Felixstowe & Corinthians on Sat 23 Jun 2018 at 13:00
Halstead Cricket Club Lost by 9 wickets

Match report Andy Rose’s side’s winning streak came to an end as they were outplayed on the day by a high-flying Felixstowe & Corinthians side.

An unbeaten 145 by Matthew Lawrenson took the game away from Halstead, who had earlier posted a below par 212-4 courtesy of Simon Steel (74*) and Andy Rose (43*).

Batting first, Graham Wickes (1) was dismissed early on, edging behind to Daniel Norman off John Tooley (2-62), the first of two wickets for the seamer.

Neale Dakin (29) had continued his fine form with the bat and likely would have gone on to continue his run of scores of 50 plus, but for an excellent piece of fielding from Matthew Lawrenson, his pick-up, throw and direct hit found Dakin just short of his ground.

Andrew Clark (25) and Justin Rose (22) added 41 for the third-wicket before Clark was bowled by Tooley.

Simon Steel – making his first appearance of the season – predominantly dealt in boundaries as he scored 37 out of a 39-run stand with Justin Rose until Rose was bowled by Charlie Hitchen (1-67).

Andy Rose and Steel added an unbeaten 85 for the 5th wicket, the former ending on 43 not out and Simon Steel passing his half-century to reach 74 not out from 58 deliveries as the hosts finished on 212-4 from their 45 overs.

Ben Hopkins (26) scored freely at the start of the Felixstowe reply but feathered an edge behind to Clark off Graham Wickes to leave the visitors at 35-1.

This would prove to be the only wicket Halstead took, with Kyle Jay (31) playing the understudy to Lawrenson’s fine innings.

Halstead cycled through bowling options, with Justin Rose, Sam Walter, Callum Hansey, Chris Roper, Liam Jones and Simon Steel all going wicketless.

Lawrenson scored 96 runs in boundaries, including 21 fours and 2 sixes, passing a deserved century and eventually hitting the winning runs with 9 overs remaining.

The Second XI hope to welcome back last week’s opening bowlers Aaron Read and Rob Harris for Saturday’s trip to Maldon.
