Match report Halstead II - 82 all out - lost to Coggeshall II - 84-3 - by 7 wickets

The Second XI fell to a chastening defeat at the hands of their Coggeshall counterparts courtesy of a huge batting collapse.

Coggeshall won the toss and bowled first on a wicket graced by the Lashings World XI the day prior.

Despite the early wicket of Mark Johnson (11) - caught at mid-off by Jack Simons off Sam Carruthers - the visitors moved on to 50-1.

Graham Wickes (31) had batted well, punishing anything short of a length, but the visitors collapsed from a position of relative strength at 50-1 to 82 all out.

No other batsman made double figures as Carruthers (6-38) and Tom Pickles (3-7) wrought havoc on the Halstead batting line-up.

With only 26 overs bowled in the Halstead innings, the team went straight out and Toby Brown (3) fell early on, hitting Chris Roper (1-20) straight to Sam Paisley at mid wicket.

Paisley (0-14) bowled well with no reward for the second week running, but Graham Wickes (1-23) entered the attack and soon had Darren Green (24) caught at first slip courtesy of an excellent one-handed grab from Mark Johnson.

With only 82 on the board, defending the total was never likely, Liam Jones' (1-22) wicket of Fergus Wishart (31) proved scant consolation as Halstead were well beaten, Ben Chaplin (13*) and Louis Gibson (8*) seeing the hosts home.
