Felixstowe & Corinthians v Halstead Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI on Sat 08 Sep 2018 at 12:30
Halstead Cricket Club Lost by 186 runs
Match report
Halstead II - 61 all out - lost to Felixstowe & Corinthians - 247-7 - by 186 runs
Halstead were further drawn into the heart of the relegation mire, with a comprehensive defeat at the hands of Felixstowe & Corinthians.
The defeat left the visitors second from bottom in the Division Four table, with four teams separated by six points going into the final game of the campaign. Victory for the hosts meanwhile meant they secured the Division Four title.
Nacton (228 pts), Maldon II (225), Wivenhoe II (225) and Halstead (222) could all be relegated on the final day, but the losers of the Halstead vs Maldon game look to be the most likely team to suffer the drop.
Halstead had gotten off to a good start, reducing Felixstowe to 52-3 with Ben Hopkins (16) and Marc Lloyd (4) falling to Aaron Read (2-73) either side of Justin Rose (2-39) trapping Matthew Lawrenson (8) lbw.
Home skipper Adam Hopkins (108) and Daniel Norman (15) added 44 for the fourth wicket before the latter miscued Rose to Read at midwicket.
Kyle Jay (59) and Hopkins took the game away from the visitors in a 113-run partnership that dominated the middle overs of the Felixstowe innings.
Hopkins reached a well-deserved maiden century, a 113-ball effort comprising 12 fours and a six before playing on off Graham Wickes (3-48).
Hunter Elliston (0) was bowled first ball by the same bowler, but Jay passed his half-century alongside John Tooley (12*).
Jay became the third wicket 'bowled Wickes' as Felixstowe closed on 247-7.
Brothers Charlie and Harry Hitchen opened the bowling for the hosts and the former produced a rip-snorter of a delivery to bowl Wickes (0) first ball of the reply.
Andrew Clark (3) and Matt Cooper (0) fell in successive deliveries in the older Hitchen's second over as Halstead were reduced to 9-3.
Justin Rose (28) hit four fours and a six as he tried to take the game to Felixstowe, but was bowled when a Harry Hitchen (1-28) delivery kept low.
Sam Hawes (9) had absorbed the pressure being built by Charlie Hitchen as he and Rose put on 32 for the fourth wicket, but could only look on as Andy Rose (0) and Adam Morris (0) fell for ducks to John Tooley (2-0) and Halstead were soon 43-6.
Aaron Read (1) become the fourth wicket for Hitchen and when Hawes' stoic resistance was breached, Hitchen had an excellent return of 5-16 from 11 overs.
Callum Hansey (2) and Chris Roper (5) were bowled by Lyle Reeves (1-2) and Kyle Jay (1-0) respectively after prolonging the inevitable, but Halstead were all out for 61.
