Halstead Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI v Elmstead II on Sat 25 May 2019 at 13:00
Halstead Cricket Club Won by 148 runs

Match report Halstead II - 198-6 - beat Elmstead II - 50 all out - by 148 runs

The 2nd XI were comprehensive winners over Elmstead II at Star Stile on Saturday, bowling out the visitors for just 50 in their chase of 199.

The Halstead innings was set-up by a 78-run partnership between Neale Dakin (34) and Justin Rose (44) for the first wicket, Rose approaching 50 in swift fashion before being bowled by Christon McCoy (2-29).

Dakin fell soon after, edging to former Halstead player Graham Cook, who took a fine leaping catch at gully to give McCoy his second wicket.

Tom Peacock (0) made his return to the Halstead side after six years but did not trouble the scorers as he top-edged Tom Jeffray (1-50) to Jamie Tearle at gully.

Simon Steel (27) dealt in boundaries as Halstead passed the 100 mark but he and Andrew Clark (16) both fell to Marcus Mattias (2-37) to leave the hosts 141-5.

Luke Robinson (28*) and David Baalham (24) had put on 50 the previous week at Eight Ash Green to rescue the innings, doing the same at Star Stile, Baalham's quick fire 24 came from 18 balls and helped push Halstead toward a competitive total of 198-6.

Baalham played on to Zac Pushman (1-72), leaving Robinson and Charles Mallett (5*) to bat out the allotted 45 overs.

Apart from Fraser Eadie (18) there was little opposition from the Elmstead batting line-up in their reply, defensive shots at a premium as the visitors looked to get on top of the Halstead bowling.

Justin Rose (4-23) and Luke Robinson (4-25) shared the wickets around in destructive opening spells, Rose bowling Graham Cook (1) and Robinson beating an Eadie leave to take the top of off stump.

Jack Cawley (4) hit Robinson for four first ball but tried again from his second and only found Charles Mallett at mid-off, Premjith Premachandran (2) edging to Neale Dakin in the slips off Rose soon after.

Zac Pushman (0) was bowled and Jamie Tearle (10) gave Mallett a second catch to record Robinson's third and fourth wickets, before Marcus Matthias (4) drilled one back to Rose who somehow clung on to the return catch.

Naveen Kamalachandran (0) perished first ball, hitting a simple catch to Callum Hansey at short cover but Tom Jeffray (0) survived the hat trick ball.

Charles Mallett (1-1) took the final wicket, that of Jeffray, caught at mid-on by Peacock, to bowl out ten-man Elmstead for 50.
