Mildenhall III v Halstead Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI on Sat 25 Aug 2018 at 12:30
Halstead Cricket Club Lost by 49 runs

Match report Halstead II - 186-8 - lost to Mildenhall III - 235-5 - by 49 runs

The old adage 'catches win matches' was in effect once again for the Second Eleven, as two chances went down that ended up costing the visitors over 100 runs.

Sam Paisley (1-25) finally took a much deserved first wicket for the 2nd XI, a caught and bowled to dismiss Kiefer Renouf (7).

Aaron Read (1-61) then bowled Mark Thurston (16), but it would be the drop of James Taylor (78) at cover when in single-figures that turned the game.

Taylor put on 114 with Kevin Pearson (43) to take the game away from Halstead, despite the pair falling lbw in successive deliveries to Callum Hansey (1-66) and Mark Harris (2-44).

Harris had Richard Thurston (0) caught behind first ball by Andrew Clark to leave Mildenhall 157-5.

When Dustin Wilder (41*) skied Hansey to point, the hosts looked set for well below 200, but the catch went down and Wilder and Matthew Heywood (32*) ended up putting on an unbeaten 78 for the 6th wicket.

Matt Cooper (28) survived an early scare when he was dropped at cover and was fluent for his 28 runs, dominating the opening 37-run stand with Adam Morris (28).

The latter was watchful alongside first Cooper and then Andrew Clark (29), but both openers were bowled by Martin Kingdon (2-42) to be left at 95-2.

The strong position belied the overs left in the game and the Halstead middle-order had to score at over a run a ball for the majority of their chase, Liam Jones (29), Clark and David Baalham (16) all falling to Kiefer Renouf (3-54) as they looked to advance the score.

Andy Rose (5) and Mark Harris (0) were bowled by leg-spinner Matthew Heywood (3-25), before Rob Harris (14) and Aaron Read (6*) dragged Halstead to 186-8, the former holing out to give Heywood a third wicket off the final delivery.

Halstead sit 29 points ahead of Saturday's opponents Wivenhoe II and the relegation zone, knowing victory would all but secure their Division Four status for another season with three games remaining.
