Match report The Second XI came out on the wrong end of a low-scoring game at Nowton on Saturday. Credit must go to the hosts for getting a game on in less than ideal conditions.

Halstead lost the toss and were put in to bat and found themselves in a world of trouble at 29-4 as Andrew Ward (1-9 off 11) and Jamie Walker (3-33 off 11) had the visitors under the cosh.

Adam Morris (30) and Dave Brooker (34) made the only meaningful stand - 67 for the fifth wicket - with only Dusi Raviendran (15) also reaching double figures as Halstead set Nowton 129 for victory.

Phil Godden (24) and Keegan Bulger (22) made a solid start for the hosts, though the latter was bowled by Justin Rose (1-14). John Clinch (4-25) and Callum Hansey (1-42) bowled with discipline to limit the hosts' scoring opportunities.

Godden was one of three batsmen to be caught by Charles Mallett, the first of Clinch's wickets before Sam Cordell (0) hit Hansey straight to Mallett at mid-off. Dan Stobbart (13) threw caution to the wind before being bowled by Clinch.

At 104-4, the hosts still looked overwhelming favourites, but three wickets fell for the addition of a single run as Jamie Walker (29) and Will Stobbart (2) were both dismissed by Clinch and when Mark Harris (1-14) bowled Christian Gregory (0) with an excellent delivery, the cat was well and truly amongst the pigeons.

Unfortunately for Rose's side, Olly Day (22*) took the game away from the visitors and saw Nowton to a three-wicket win,
