Mildenhall CC, Suffolk 3rd XI v Halstead Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI on Sat 12 Jun 2021 at 13:00
Halstead Cricket Club Lost by 2 wickets
Match report
Halstead were left ruing an under par batting score as they came close to breaking their duck for the 2021 season.
Mark Johnson (52) and Chris Amos (39) got the visitors off to a great start after being asked to bat first by Mildenhall, the latter looking fluent for the majority of his innings until he was bowled by Martin Taylor (1-37).
Legspinner Mo Ubaid's introduction was likely the turning point as the youngster went for just 17 runs from his 12 overs as the Halstead batsmen struggled to score off him. Only Justin Rose (12) and Dave Brooker (15) of the middle order reached double figures, with Johnson bringing up his first league half-century of the season.
A big-hitting cameo from Danny Lynn (28) showed runs could be scored on the pitch, dragging Halstead to 178 before they were bowled out in the final over.
Mildenhall started well with Kieren Davis (24) and James Taylor (29), but the pair fell to the excellent George Pritchard (4-43), with sub fielder Lewis Plumb taking the catch on both occasions.
Pritchard also trapped Steve Grinling (1) and Ewan Kingdon (0) lbw in the same over, either side of Chris Roper (2-49) having skipper Reben Handy (11) caught at midwicket by Sam Johnson.
Kiefer Renouf (37) backed up his bowling performance (3-40) with a quick fire knock alongside Harry Parker (39*), but a stunning catch on the boundary from Pritchard accounted for Renouf to give Mark Johnson (2-28) his first wicket.
Edward Finnis (0) holed out to Charles Mallett off Roper before Martin Taylor (11) did the same off Mark Johnson, this time Callum Hansey taking the catch, leaving the hosts needing 22 from the final four overs.
Parker took 12 runs from the 43rd over, leaving Ubaid (9*) to hit the winning runs and prolong Halstead's wait for a win.
