Match report A fine start to the season continued on Saturday with all three teams registering a win.
The unlikely highlight came in the 3rd XI where 13 year old Charlie Dakin playing just his second senior match scored a wonderful 61 opening with his dad Neale. Between them they put on an opening stand of 104 before Dakin senior was dismissed , Charlie however continued ably assisted by Muhammad Waleed finally falling with the score on 192. Halstead ended their 45 overs on 286/3.
The opponents Witham always kept in touch with the huge target despite wickets falling at regular intervals.The turning point coming when Charlie Dakin , having donned the wicket keeping gloves , took a stunning one handed catch to dismiss the dangerous Mark Stefanini. The wicket takers for Halstead were Robert Harris , Freddie Rose , Mark Harris an Archie Smith with two apiece , Halstead completing the win by 50 runs .Charlie is a pupil at Gosfield School and also plays representative cricket for Essex.
